What is ready for your ceremony?

Answer for both partners. This is a preparation checklist, not an approval of a marriage license or a legal decision about your circumstances.

Are both of you 18 or older?

This online process is for adults. You do not need to enter birth dates here.

Are both of you legally free to marry?

Neither partner can still be married to someone else. A separation is not the same as a finalized divorce.

Are both of you choosing the marriage freely?

Both partners need to understand the marriage and agree to it themselves.

Are you unrelated to one another?

If you are related, get advice about the rules that apply before booking.

Do both of you have valid government-issued photo ID?

Each partner completes identity verification during the license application. Do not upload identification to this tool.

If either of you was married before, are the ending details ready?

Have accurate information about how and when it ended. Additional proof may be requested. Choose yes if neither of you was married before.

Can both of you join a live video ceremony?

You need a reliable connection and a camera and microphone so everyone taking part can see and hear one another. You can join together or from separate places.

Understand the requirements

Being ready means more than having a date in mind

You both need to be legally free to marry, complete the license process and attend the live ceremony yourselves. The online preparation helps you organize those steps. It does not replace the required checks.

If either partner was married before

Have the correct ending date and information available for the license application. A previous marriage must have legally ended before another legal marriage. If you are unsure whether a divorce is final or which records are needed, resolve that question before booking.

If you are not sure about your identification

Each partner needs valid government-issued photo identification and must complete identity verification. Ask about the application requirements if a document is expired, damaged or uses a different name. Keep identification out of ordinary website messages unless the team directs you to a secure process.

If there is a legal question about your circumstances

A short website tool cannot review every situation. If you are related to one another, unsure about a previous marriage or have a question about your ability to consent, get advice about your circumstances before proceeding.

You do the preparation through your account. Your wedding itself is a live Zoom ceremony with an officiant, your partner and two adult witnesses.

  1. Complete your own information

    Both partners need to provide accurate details. Follow the instructions for the intake form and license application.

  2. Verify each partner’s identity

    The online license application includes ID and identity checks. A smartphone is needed to scan each applicant’s ID and face.

  3. Prepare a reliable connection

    Use a camera and microphone that allow everyone to see and hear one another during the live ceremony.

  4. Attend the ceremony yourselves

    You can join from the same room or different locations. Both partners participate live, along with the officiant and witnesses.

Complete the license process

Follow the application instructions in your account. The government license fee is separate from the ceremony package.

Upload your issued license

Once the license is issued, upload it to your account and continue to ceremony scheduling.

Confirm your witness plans

Bring two adult witnesses or use the witnesses we provide at no extra charge. Make sure everyone understands how to join.

If your plans cross borders

Being able to prepare for a ceremony does not answer every question about using the marriage certificate later. Recognition, residency and immigration depend on the purpose and the rules that apply to your circumstances.

If those are part of your plans, work through them alongside the wedding preparation. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee recognition or immigration approval.

Questions before getting started

Do we both need to be 18?

This online process is for adults age 18 and over. Do not use this tool to arrange a marriage involving a minor.

Do we have to be U.S. citizens or live in the same place?

U.S. citizenship and living together are not required for this online ceremony process. Each partner still needs to complete the required identity and license steps. Recognition elsewhere is a separate question.

Can we take part from different countries?

Both partners can join the live ceremony from different locations with a suitable device and connection. Consider any immigration or recognition questions alongside your ceremony plans.

Can we marry if a divorce is still in progress?

A current marriage must have legally ended before another legal marriage. If you are unsure about the status of your divorce, resolve that question before proceeding.

What if we do not have witnesses?

We can provide the two adult witnesses at no extra charge. You may also use your own witnesses.

Does this check book our wedding?

No. It only helps identify preparation steps. Booking, the license application and ceremony scheduling happen separately through the guided process.
