A real moment between you

Distance changes the setting, not the commitment

You each join the same video call. Your officiant leads the ceremony, you both say “I do,” and two adult witnesses take part.

It can be a quiet moment at home, with the people closest to you watching online. You can plan a celebration in person when the time is right.

Before the call

Make space for your moment

A few practical choices can make it easier to focus on each other.

Both partners, your officiant and your witnesses need to see and hear one another throughout the ceremony.

  1. Confirm the time in both places

Add the ceremony to your calendars using the right local time, especially if daylight saving changes affect one of you.

  2. Test your device and connection

Check the camera, microphone and internet where you’ll actually sit. Keep your device charged or plugged in.

  3. Choose a quiet, comfortable spot

Face a window or lamp so your face is easy to see. Set your device somewhere steady and give yourself a little room.

  4. Share the link with your people

Make sure your witnesses know when to join. Invite family and friends if you’d like them to watch too.

Marry now, celebrate later

Your wedding can happen in more than one way

You don’t have to fit the legal ceremony, family travel and a larger celebration into one day.

Complete your marriage online, then gather your favorite people when you can be in the same place. A meal together, a party or a future ceremony can still be part of your story.

Two packages for your next step

Both include a live online ceremony. The main difference is whether you also need apostille authentication for your marriage certificate.

Questions about marrying while apart

Get comfortable with the details

Have a question about your plans? Ask our team ↗

Can we really get married without being in the same room?

Yes. You can both take part in the same live online ceremony from separate locations. Your ceremony includes an authorized officiant, a valid license, two adult witnesses and the required filing.

Does someone stand in for one of us?

No. You both attend and speak for yourselves. You must be able to see and hear one another, your officiant and your witnesses during the ceremony.

Can our witnesses join from different places too?

Yes. Each witness must be at least 18 and able to participate live by video. They don’t need to be in the room with either of you.

Can we invite family and friends?

Yes. You can share your ceremony link with guests who would like to watch online. Your two witnesses still need to take part in the required ceremony steps.

What if we’re in different countries?

You can attend from different countries. Recognition abroad and immigration uses have their own requirements. Our international couples page explains the questions to consider.

What happens if our plans change?

Let us know. We’re happy to work with you to reschedule your ceremony, and our team can help if you want to change packages.
