Two different ways to plan
A mailed Alaska application does not create a remote ceremony
Alaska allows certain applicants to apply by mail, including people outside the state and people in areas without an Alaska court office. That option concerns the license application. It should not be read as permission to hold an Alaska ceremony with the couple in different places. The state’s current guidance requires both parties to be present before the officiant and one witness.
An Alaska marriage license is for a ceremony in Alaska or its state waters. It cannot simply be carried into a different jurisdiction’s ceremony process. If you are comparing a local ceremony with our online service, decide which route you are following before applying. Our account will guide you toward the license used for our remote ceremony.
There are separate dates to keep track of in the local route. Alaska lists a three-business-day waiting period after it receives the completed application. Once the license is issued and picked up, it is valid for 90 days. Mailing time and an incomplete application can affect your practical schedule even when you have already chosen a wedding day.

Write down where each partner will physically be on the proposed date, rather than only your home addresses. If a partner is at a work site, on a ship or away from a reliable connection, check whether they can participate clearly and privately. A calendar opening by itself does not mean the setting will work for a live ceremony.
Your account shows the appointment time. Coordinate it with your partner, especially when you are in different time zones. Arrange a quiet place, a charged device and a backup way to contact the team if your connection fails. Do not make travel or benefit plans based only on a hoped-for ceremony date.
Think about the certificate destination as well as the ceremony. An electronic notice, a mailed license and a certified marriage record serve different purposes. Keep the issuing jurisdiction and shipping address with your order details, particularly if you will move between locations after the wedding.

Choose an available appointment after the required preparation. You and your partner join by video with an officiant and two adult witnesses. We can provide the witnesses, or you can bring your own.
Choose document support
The $399 package includes the ceremony. The $899 package adds apostille authentication for your marriage certificate. Both have a separate government marriage license fee. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee acceptance.

Alaska marriage rules to know
These details apply to a marriage license issued through the Alaska local process. They are state-specific planning points, not requirements for the separate license used for our ceremony.
- An Alaska license is only valid for ceremonies in Alaska or Alaska state waters.
- The waiting period is three business days after a completed application is received; issued license validity is 90 days.
- Proxy marriage is not permitted; both parties must be present before the officiant and one witness.
