Planning your marriage from New Hampshire

Online marriage in New Hampshire: get legally married from home

New Hampshire couples can plan a local marriage without a mandatory waiting period, but there is still a license window and a completed-record step to understand. If work, distance or travel makes an online ceremony appealing, start by separating the local route from our service. The two processes have their own license instructions. Choosing one clear route helps you avoid treating an application, a ceremony reservation and a marriage certificate as three names for the same thing.

Two different ways to plan

Put the 90-day window on your calendar

A New Hampshire marriage license is valid for no more than 90 days from the date the marriage intentions are filed. The state has no waiting period, but the beginning of that 90-day window is tied to the application process. If you choose a local wedding, plan around the actual dates shown on the issued license rather than relying on the date you first discussed the wedding.

The absence of a waiting period is not a promise of an immediate appointment or an available officiant. Check the practical arrangements before inviting guests or booking travel. If a ceremony date changes, check the license again before assuming it remains usable. Keeping the legal event inside the document's valid period is a different task from planning the celebration you want around it.

Our live online service uses a separate licensing process. We do not convert a New Hampshire license into a remote ceremony simply because you have already filed marriage intentions. Tell the team what paperwork has already been started. That gives you a clearer answer about the next step and helps you avoid following two sets of instructions at once.

Your plans, made clearer

Do not stop your checklist at the ceremony

For a local New Hampshire marriage, the officiant's completed paperwork and the later certificate request are separate from the application. Official instructions note that certificates are not automatically mailed to the couple. If you need a copy for an employer, account update or other administrative task, include that request in your plan. A calendar reminder after the wedding can be more useful than ordering documents before the marriage record exists.

For our online route, use the certificate instructions given for that process instead of the local application you may have compared. Decide which mailing address will remain useful if either partner is moving. Keep the exact document name requested by the receiving office in your notes, together with any deadline. You can celebrate later, but you should still understand how to obtain and use the official record of the legal ceremony.

What to expect from the process

Prepare together

Explore your options, then use your account to complete your couple profile and the requested details. Follow the license instructions in your portal and upload the approved license when prompted.

Meet for a live ceremony

Choose an available appointment after the required preparation. You and your partner join by video with an officiant and two adult witnesses. We can provide the witnesses, or you can bring your own.

Choose document support

The $399 package includes the ceremony. The $899 package adds apostille authentication for your marriage certificate. Both have a separate government marriage license fee. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee acceptance.

Local requirements

New Hampshire marriage rules to know

These details apply to a marriage license issued through the New Hampshire local process. They are state-specific planning points, not requirements for the separate license used for our ceremony.

  • New Hampshire does not impose a waiting period before a marriage ceremony.
  • The license period is limited to 90 days from the filing of intentions.
  • The certificate is not automatically sent. Request it after the officiant returns the license.

State rules reviewed: November 7, 2026. Confirm local requirements with the issuing office before applying.

Two different processes

Questions from New Hampshire couples

Does no waiting period mean the ceremony is automatic?

No. The local license process, availability of an authorized officiant and the ceremony itself are separate arrangements. Our online service follows its own preparation and scheduling steps.

Will a New Hampshire certificate automatically arrive after the wedding?

Local guidance says certificates are not automatically sent. The completed ceremony must be recorded and a certificate requested. Follow the certificate instructions for whichever marriage route you use.

Will our ceremony be recorded in New Hampshire?

Not through this separate remote process. Your marriage record is held by the government authority that records the ceremony, rather than automatically by your home state. Keep the certified copy and confirm what the organization receiving it needs.

Can we join the ceremony from different places?

Yes. The ceremony is live by video, and both partners may join from the same room or separate locations. Everyone must be able to see and hear one another. Two adult witnesses attend, and witnesses are included if you need them.

Does this service issue a New Hampshire marriage license?

No. The online ceremony follows the process described on our How it works page. The New Hampshire rules above apply to couples choosing a local New Hampshire license. These are separate routes, so do not treat a local application or a general course as a substitute for the process described on our How it works page.

How long does it take to get married online from New Hampshire?

Your portal shows available appointment times and guides you through the application and identity checks. The government authority handles certificate processing after the ceremony; timing depends on that office.

Will every agency accept our marriage certificate?

Requirements depend on the office or organization receiving the certificate, and can differ for benefits, immigration matters or use outside the United States. Ask that office what record, certified copy, apostille or translation it needs before choosing a package.

Can we use a local clerk near Manchester, Nashua instead?

You can choose a local New Hampshire license route, but local application and ceremony rules are separate from our remote process described on our How it works page. Contact the clerk or issuing office for the current requirements in the county or town where you plan to apply.
