Two different ways to plan
Plan around the local 24-hour waiting period
New York normally requires at least 24 hours between issuance of a marriage license and the ceremony. The waiting time is measured from the actual time of issuance, not just from one calendar day to the next. A court can waive the wait in qualifying circumstances, but a couple should not build its ordinary plan around receiving an exception.
The usual New York license period is 60 calendar days, beginning the day after issuance. The state's guidance describes a possible extension to 180 days for active U.S. military members when proof is provided at the application stage. These rules govern the local New York route. They do not set the schedule for a different licensing process simply because a couple lives in New York.
A New York license can be used only for a marriage in New York. State guidance also requires both applicants to apply in person and says a representative cannot replace an applicant, even with a power of attorney. A family member helping with forms cannot assume responsibility for the couple's required personal participation. Our online service has its own identification and live-participation requirements.

Keep military travel and document needs in the same plan
If military duty or travel affects the wedding, write down where each partner will be, when both can participate and whether a deadline relates to the ceremony or to receiving a certificate. Your portal shows the available appointment times for your plans. A statement that the ceremony can be attended remotely should not be confused with a promise about benefits, filing deadlines or certificate arrival.
After selecting the legal route, keep a simple record of which certificate you expect and where it will be used. Ask the receiving organization what it needs, especially if an international purpose is involved. A ceremony recording is a personal keepsake, while an official certificate is the legal record. Authentication may be requested for a document, but it does not settle every question about foreign recognition or immigration eligibility.

Choose document support
The $399 package includes the ceremony. The $899 package adds apostille authentication for your marriage certificate. Both have a separate government marriage license fee. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee acceptance.

Questions from New York couples
Can a New York marriage license be used outside New York?
No. State guidance says it may be used only within New York. Our online ceremony follows a separate licensing process.
Is New York’s waiting period just overnight?
No. The usual rule is 24 hours from the exact time the license is issued. A ceremony the following morning may still be too early for the local route.
Will our ceremony be recorded in New York?
Not through this separate remote process. Your marriage record is held by the government authority that records the ceremony, rather than automatically by your home state. Keep the certified copy and confirm what the organization receiving it needs.
Can we join the ceremony from different places?
Yes. The ceremony is live by video, and both partners may join from the same room or separate locations. Everyone must be able to see and hear one another. Two adult witnesses attend, and witnesses are included if you need them.
Does this service issue a New York marriage license?

How long does it take to get married online from New York?

Will every agency accept our marriage certificate?
Requirements depend on the office or organization receiving the certificate, and can differ for benefits, immigration matters or use outside the United States. Ask that office what record, certified copy, apostille or translation it needs before choosing a package.
Can we use a local clerk near New York City, Buffalo instead?
