Two different ways to plan
Your address can affect the local application
For a Rhode Island license, two residents apply in the city or town where either lives. If only one partner lives in Rhode Island, the application belongs in that resident’s city or town. If neither partner is a resident, the place of the planned ceremony determines where they apply. Moving the ceremony can therefore raise an application question.
The state’s health department lists photo identification and a birth certificate among the required documents. A previous marriage or civil union also brings document requirements showing that relationship has ended. If your records are stored elsewhere, give yourself time to obtain the right certified documents instead of relying on photographs of old paperwork.
These address and document instructions concern Rhode Island’s own license. Our guided online process supplies its own application requirements. Living in Providence or another Rhode Island community does not mean you should first obtain a local license for our ceremony. If you already hold one, let the team know before proceeding.

Decide whether travel is necessary for your chosen ceremony, then make a short list of the documents each person can access. For our live online experience, review the account instructions together even if one person is handling most of the planning. Each partner needs to understand their own tasks and be ready to participate. If you plan to use the marriage certificate outside the United States, identify the receiving office and ask what form of certificate or authentication it accepts. An apostille authenticates the document; it does not make every intended use automatic.

Choose an available appointment after the required preparation. You and your partner join by video with an officiant and two adult witnesses. We can provide the witnesses, or you can bring your own.
Choose document support
The $399 package includes the ceremony. The $899 package adds apostille authentication for your marriage certificate. Both have a separate government marriage license fee. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee acceptance.
