Planning your marriage from Tennessee

Online marriage in Tennessee: get legally married from home

Tennessee is a familiar place for destination weddings, but buying a license and booking a ceremony are still separate tasks. That distinction matters whether you want a small local wedding or a live online ceremony before a later celebration. Our service follows a separate remote licensing process and gives you a guided account for the required preparation. You do not need to organize a Tennessee marriage simply because you live there. Begin by choosing the ceremony route, then gather the documents that belong to it.

Two different ways to plan

A license does not automatically include a ceremony

Tennessee’s local marriage license is valid for 30 days after issuance. That relatively short window makes it useful to decide on the ceremony arrangements before obtaining the document. A license appointment and an officiant appointment may be booked separately, even when both take place close to home.

As one practical example, Nashville’s issuing office states that it does not perform civil ceremonies. That is a local service detail, not a statement that every Tennessee office operates identically. Ask what your chosen location actually provides instead of assuming that the application fee includes someone to perform the marriage.

Our live online ceremony is not a reservation for a Tennessee local ceremony. We provide the account guidance and ceremony service through a separate licensing route. If you already hold a Tennessee license, follow the portal guidance to keep the two processes separate.

Your plans, made clearer

Plan the legal moment and the trip separately

A weekend in the mountains or a visit to family may be the celebration you want even if you marry online beforehand. Put the legal ceremony and the gathering on your planning list as two distinct events. Decide which one requires the marriage paperwork, which one needs guests or travel, and which costs are optional. This helps you avoid purchasing a local license only because a trip has already been booked.

If you choose our service, use the guided account to prepare rather than trying to build a ceremony around a local license deadline. Both partners need to complete the required information and join the live call. Plan witnesses and a setting where you can hear clearly. Keep any certificate request separate from reception planning, so you understand when the official record will be available for your next administrative steps. If a celebration venue offers ceremony services, ask exactly what is included before deciding that you need a second set of legal arrangements.

What to expect from the process

Prepare together

Explore your options, then use your account to complete your couple profile and the requested details. Follow the license instructions in your portal and upload the approved license when prompted.

Meet for a live ceremony

Choose an available appointment after the required preparation. You and your partner join by video with an officiant and two adult witnesses. We can provide the witnesses, or you can bring your own.

Choose document support

The $399 package includes the ceremony. The $899 package adds apostille authentication for your marriage certificate. Both have a separate government marriage license fee. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee acceptance.

Local requirements

Tennessee marriage rules to know

These details apply to a marriage license issued through the Tennessee local process. They are state-specific planning points, not requirements for the separate license used for our ceremony.

  • A Tennessee marriage license is valid for 30 days.
  • The issuing office does not perform civil ceremonies; arrange an authorized officiant separately.

State rules reviewed: November 7, 2026. Confirm local requirements with the issuing office before applying.

Two different processes

Choose the route that fits your plans

A marriage license issued in Tennessee follows Tennessee rules. Our remote ceremony uses a separate application and ceremony process. The steps below explain what our service includes; they do not replace local requirements if you apply for a Tennessee license.

Questions from Tennessee couples

Does a Tennessee license appointment include an officiant?

Not necessarily. For example, Nashville says its issuing office does not perform civil ceremonies. Confirm what your chosen local service includes.

Do we need a Tennessee license for your online wedding?

No. Our ceremony follows its own licensing process. Let the team know if you have already purchased a local license.

Will our ceremony be recorded in Tennessee?

Not through this separate remote process. Your marriage record is held by the government authority that records the ceremony, rather than automatically by your home state. Keep the certified copy and confirm what the organization receiving it needs.

Can we join the ceremony from different places?

Yes. The ceremony is live by video, and both partners may join from the same room or separate locations. Everyone must be able to see and hear one another. Two adult witnesses attend, and witnesses are included if you need them.

Does this service issue a Tennessee marriage license?

No. The online ceremony follows the process described on our How it works page. The Tennessee rules above apply to couples choosing a local Tennessee license. These are separate routes, so do not treat a local application or a general course as a substitute for the process described on our How it works page.

How long does it take to get married online from Tennessee?

Your portal shows available appointment times and guides you through the application and identity checks. The government authority handles certificate processing after the ceremony; timing depends on that office.

Will every agency accept our marriage certificate?

Requirements depend on the office or organization receiving the certificate, and can differ for benefits, immigration matters or use outside the United States. Ask that office what record, certified copy, apostille or translation it needs before choosing a package.

Can we use a local clerk near Nashville, Memphis instead?

You can choose a local Tennessee license route, but local application and ceremony rules are separate from our remote process described on our How it works page. Contact the clerk or issuing office for the current requirements in the county or town where you plan to apply.
