Planning your marriage from Missouri
For Missouri couples, the first question is which marriage process you intend to use. Starting paperwork online, receiving a local marriage license and attending a remote ceremony are different things. You might be comparing an in-state wedding with our guided online service because you work different schedules or cannot be together for an appointment. Start by choosing a single legal route. That makes the application, ceremony and certificate steps easier to follow without paying for paperwork that belongs to a different process.

Two different ways to plan
Missouri law allows a marriage-license application to be signed in person or electronically through an online process. This is an important distinction from older instructions that describe every application as an in-person visit. Electronic application permission does not, on its own, mean a couple may turn any Missouri ceremony into a video call. The license and the way the ceremony is performed still need to follow the requirements of the chosen process. Where an office offers fully online issuance without in-person identity verification, state law requires at least one applicant to live in that issuing jurisdiction and a qualifying identity check.
A Missouri license becomes void 30 days after issuance. If you choose that local route, work backward from the wedding date rather than submitting an application as soon as you become engaged. Make sure the planned officiant knows which license you have and can carry out the required signing and filing. Keep an appointment confirmation separate from the issued license so you know which stage you have actually reached.
Our service follows its own remote-marriage process with the appropriate license and authorized officiant. It is not a service for converting an already-issued Missouri license into a remote ceremony. Tell us if you have started or completed a local application. A clear answer at the beginning can prevent two separate document paths from becoming mixed together when you upload information to your account.
Your plans, made clearer
A useful preparation folder contains your photo identification, the exact names you will use on the application, details of any earlier marriages and the information requested in your account. If a name differs between documents, raise that before the ceremony. Do not assume a record can be changed easily afterward. Upload documents only through the instructions provided for your selected process, and keep the originals available if requested.
For a couple joining from different places, agree on the ceremony time in both locations and test the connection where you will actually participate. After the ceremony, follow the filing and certificate instructions for that same process. If a bank, benefits administrator or overseas office needs proof of marriage, ask what version of the certificate it accepts. Authentication and acceptance are separate questions, so choose document support based on the intended use.

Choose an available appointment after the required preparation. You and your partner join by video with an officiant and two adult witnesses. We can provide the witnesses, or you can bring your own.
The $399 package includes the ceremony. The $899 package adds apostille authentication for your marriage certificate. Both have a separate government marriage license fee. An apostille authenticates a document; it does not guarantee acceptance.

Local requirements
These details apply to a marriage license issued through the Missouri local process. They are state-specific planning points, not requirements for the separate license used for our ceremony.
State rules reviewed: November 7, 2026. Confirm local requirements with the issuing office before applying.
Two different processes
A marriage license issued in Missouri follows Missouri rules. Our remote ceremony uses a separate application and ceremony process. The steps below explain what our service includes; they do not replace local requirements if you apply for a Missouri license.
| Question | A local Missouri license | Our live online ceremony |
|---|---|---|
| Which license applies? | The license is issued by the local Missouri authority. Use the waiting-period, validity and filing information in this guide, and confirm local details with the issuing office. | The ceremony follows the process described on our How it works page and uses a license for that process. It is not a Missouri-issued license. |
| Where does the ceremony happen? | Follow the location and ceremony rules that apply to the specific Missouri license. | You and your partner join a live video ceremony with an authorized officiant. You may join from the same room or separate locations. |
| What about witnesses? | Witness rules can depend on the local route and license type. Confirm them with the issuing authority. | Two adult witnesses attend. Witnesses are included if you need them; let the team know before your appointment. |
| Who records the marriage? | The office that issued the local license receives the completed return under its process. | The officiant submits the required marriage paperwork. Follow the clerk’s instructions for obtaining your official certificate. |
A real ceremony, with clear steps
The ceremony takes place live by video. Your application, license, officiant, witnesses and certificate each have a role. You can review the process before creating an account.
Your account provides up-to-date package options, inclusions, pricing, terms and appointment times. The government license fee is separate.
Follow the instructions in your account to enter both partners’ information, verify your identities and prepare the license. You can join from different locations.
You, your partner, an authorized officiant and two adult witnesses join the call. Test your camera and microphone, keep identification ready, and follow the appointment time shown in your account.
Your officiant submits the required marriage paperwork. Follow the clerk’s instructions for your official certificate and any additional document checks.
What brings you here?
Every couple has a different reason for choosing a live online ceremony. Start with the guide that best matches your plans.
Planning from around Missouri
Whether you are planning from Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, the online ceremony can be joined from different locations. If you choose a local Missouri license, check the issuing county or town office for its current application, appointment and ceremony steps. Local offices may have their own forms and scheduling details.
Before your next step
State law permits electronic applications through an online process. That is an application rule, not general permission for every Missouri wedding to take place remotely.
The two processes cannot be combined. If you already have a local license, the portal guides you through the right next step.
Not through this separate remote process. Your marriage record is held by the government authority that records the ceremony, rather than automatically by your home state. Keep the certified copy and confirm what the organization receiving it needs.
Yes. The ceremony is live by video, and both partners may join from the same room or separate locations. Everyone must be able to see and hear one another. Two adult witnesses attend, and witnesses are included if you need them.
No. The online ceremony follows the process described on our How it works page. The Missouri rules above apply to couples choosing a local Missouri license. These are separate routes, so do not treat a local application or a general course as a substitute for the process described on our How it works page.
Your portal shows available appointment times and guides you through the application and identity checks. The government authority handles certificate processing after the ceremony; timing depends on that office.
Requirements depend on the office or organization receiving the certificate, and can differ for benefits, immigration matters or use outside the United States. Ask that office what record, certified copy, apostille or translation it needs before choosing a package.
You can choose a local Missouri license route, but local application and ceremony rules are separate from our remote process described on our How it works page. Contact the clerk or issuing office for the current requirements in the county or town where you plan to apply.
